The Namibia Housing Information System (NHIS) will enable municipalities and residents to be aware of land information in all fourteen regions of the country.

The regions are meeting for a five-day end-user refresher training and workshop programme for the deployment of the system.

The system will computerise land information in each locality, with a display of housing needs, housing stock, and land use.

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Daniel Nghidinua, says the need for accurate data for better planning cannot be overemphasised.

The Statistician-General, Alex Shimuafeni, says the success of the Namibia Housing Information System is dependent on accurate data.

Therefore, there is a need to fast-track the digitization of urban spaces.

All town councils so far qualify for the implementation process, which is 90% done.

The system will consist of an admin portal, a client portal, and a public portal.

The workshop will further look at the informal settlement model.
