President Nangolo Mbumba has conferred the honour of National Hero on late struggle stalwart Ida Jimmy !Ha-Eiros and directed that a State Funeral be held in her honour.
Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros will be buried on a date and place to be agreed upon with the family.
President Nangolo Mbumba visited the family home on April 5, in Keetmanshoop and used the occasion to console the family and extend a message of condolences to the children, the entire family, and the
Namibian people.
Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros is hailed for the role she played in Namibia's fight for independence since she joined the Swapo Party in 1966. She endured numerous hardships at the hands of the apartheid regime, which included house arrests and detentions, because of her outspokenness about inequalities and injustices committed by white oppressors against black people.
Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros also served as a Swapo Party politburo and CC member and served as Keetmanshoop Urban regional constituency councillor.
She died last Wednesday at the age of 79, following a long illness.
