Officials of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) are engaging stakeholders in the Omaheke Region on the general voter registration process.
This is in preparation for the general registration of voters from June 3 until August 1, ahead of the national elections on November 27.
ECN Regional Electoral Officer Josef Amwaandi stressed the importance of the session, touching on the code of conduct and voter education.
"So we can also add your input into this process and also guide us on what to do on certain things, as well as for us to pull resources together from other institutions. I want to emphasise this because we might have representatives from government offices, and you have seen directives from the Ministry of Works where we are looking for cars and also stakeholders in terms of housing us. Be it during the registration or election, we will need venues, so we will be knocking at your offices, and I'm humbly requesting that, at least if there is a fee to be paid as this is a national exercise, please give us a discount."
Sessions will be cascaded to the constituency level, and some of those who attended the session embraced the opportunity.
Polling officials will be trained from November 15–23, to be followed by party agents and police officers.
The ECN will also recruit five youth ambassadors to encourage fellow young citizens to take part in the democratic process.
