Muyako residents in the Katima Mulilo Rural Constituency are saddened by the delay in the construction of the Bukalo-Muyako-Ibbu and Ngoma roads.

The residents say development promises made to them were never honoured.

The community members raised their concerns during a meeting on Thursday.

They reiterated that the constituency is the second most populated after Katima Mulilo Urban, but the least developed compared to other constituencies in the region.

They also insist that the community has not benefited from the area's resources, alleging that the constituency councillor and other regional leaders are hardly visible in the area.

Reached for comment, the councillor for Katima Mulilo Rural Constituency, Matengu Simushi, said the road design had already been completed, blaming the delay in the project's completion on a lack of funds to start the tendering process.

That has now been sorted, he says, following talks with the Minister of Works and Transport and the CEO of the Roads Authority.

Allocation is likely to kick off in July, though an official announcement will be made later this month.

In terms of health facilities, Simushi said a meeting with the health minister in March concluded that Muyako Clinic would be prioritised next, following the completion of Kanono Clinic, which is currently under construction.

As for water provision, he said a N$1.8 billion facility available to the Namibian government from the African Development Bank would see the completion of various water projects in different regions, once environmental impact assessments are done on these sites.
