Namwater donates textbooks and stationery to 10 schools in the Kavango West Region.
The donation is worth over N$667,000.
The stationery supplied consists of 40 calculators, 50 flip files, 136 pencil cases, and 14 mathematical sets. 100 wood glues, 200 pencils, and accredited textbooks for various subjects offered at the selected schools.
Ten vulnerable schools were selected with the help of the Education Directorate.
Murayi Junior Primary, Sikumba Senior Primary, Annastasia Murangi Junior Primary, Siurungu Senior Primary, Rainer Mungungu Senior Primary, Frans Joseph Munango Junior Primary, Hema Senior Primary, Sitenda Junior Primary, Bravel Mankupi Primary School, and Mukekete Senior Primary were the schools that benefited.
The selected schools will be supported by Namwater for the next three years in various ways, including school feeding programmes.
Namwater will also assist with infrastructure, ICT, psychosocial support, and the provision of uniforms.
The Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council, Joseph Sikongo, says the poverty dimensions report that was released in 2021 indicated that Kavango West is lagging behind in terms of education.
The principal of Sikumba Primary School, Markus Kasanga, says the donation will help improve teaching at schools.
Despite challenges faced by the education sector in Kavango West Region, the region's Grade 12 performance last year was rated number one in the country.
