Gaob Hendrik Ismael Witbooi of the |Khowese Clan has expressed disappointment that the Witbooi Traditional Authority was made to wait for hours for the scheduled meeting for the consultations on the shrine erection motion with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource and Community Development.
"The Witbooi Traditional Authority was waiting at the office as per our appointment because the standing committee was supposed to meet with the Witbooi Traditional Authority at 09:00, as per the programme. However, you meet with a group identifying themselves as Royal House at another office without telling us, and you do so without showing up at the office for our scheduled appointment. The Royal House was not mentioned on the programme, and you were supposed to meet with the Witbooi Traditional Authority. Don't treat us with such disrespect," he said.
A member of the parliamentary standing committee, Edson Isaack, explained the programme was amended as advised by the Hardap Governor, Salomon April.
"When we have consultations, for the benefit of the Chief, thus yesterday we had a meeting with the governor. Now the governor is the representative of the president in this region, and as parliament, we would listen to the advice that was given for the benefit of the entire community that we plan to consult. We have followed consultations and advice, but we humbly say that we are sorry that we have listened to the governor, and we will write back to the governor to appropriately follow the advice of the governor to deal with the issue in this fashion. The intention of parliament is not to come and disturb the peace and difference there, but to attend to everybody in this very important consultation."
Additionally, Isaack advised the Goab to file a written complaint so that the standing committee could address his concerns.
Ambassador Josephat Witbooi explained why the |Khowese Royal House members were squeezed into the programme at the last minute.
"We also notice that on the programme set up, there was no room made for us, the members of the |Khowese Royal House; that is where we communicated to the Honourable Governor Salomon Mentos April, and it is from that request that he tried to put us on the programme. Our purpose for this meeting, the meeting that we had this morning, was not to mean waylay anybody or any other programme, but since this is a respected body of the |Khowese Royal House and that also needs to be taken into consideration, that's why we make the request."
