More funds are still needed to build the envisaged Helao Nafidi Private Hospital at Onhuno in the Ohangwena Region.

The private hospital, launched in October 2022, is planned to be a fully registered proprietary limited company.

The feasibility study of the envisaged Helao Nafidi Private Hospital has already been completed and approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

The founder, Eunike Heita, has commended the hospital patron for her unwavering commitment to the project, saying her involvement in the project has made a huge impact on the fundraising of the hospital.

"If it were not for our patron, Madam Pohamba, who called on the community to support and join us, this project could not have gained partners."

The fundraising lunch was anticipated to raise at least N$250,000 to meet the requirements that will open possible doors for investors and suitable funding.

The event aims to solicit resources to finalise the completion of the business plan, complete the full sets of hospital drawings, and document the bills of quantity, including finalising the land subdivision process.

"The goal of investing in the facility is to enable the delivery of patient care at a high standard across a wider spectrum of medical specialities. We will therefore ensure that any medical professional to be accorded the opportunity to utilise the facility shall comply with the goals set for Helao Nafidi Private Hospital."

The hospital patron, former First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba, who gave N$20,000 at the fundraising lunch at Eenhana, emphasised that the availability of adequate health facilities with sufficient medical services will improve people's health standards.

Pohamba says the project will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of health care services for the people of Helao Nafidi town, the entire Ohangwena, and neighbouring Angola.

"I am very grateful to see the good progress made after the official launch and the various fundraising events held so far, which raised an amount equivalent to N$315,690 in cash, medical equipment, and bedding from Lady Pohamba private hospital worth N$120,478."

On the occasion, retired General Denga Ndaitwah also donated N$20,000 to the project.

Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga called on Namibians to create a culture of embracing and supporting developments brought by citizens to bring services closer to the people.
