In response to the state of emergency declared due to drought by President Nangolo Mbumba, the government of Qatar has donated a substantial amount of supplies. The aid, valued at N$1.3 billion, aims to assist the communities affected by the severe drought conditions. 

The Qatari shipment includes 3,000 boxes of food, each packed with essential items meant to provide immediate relief to families in need.

The supplies include rice, cooking oil, cans of tuna fish, and canned meat. 

Secretary to Cabinet George Simataa expressed deep gratitude for Qatar's generous support.

"In such challenging times, it is gratifying to observe the extension of helping hands by development partners and the international community. Today, the Government of the Republic of Namibia hereby witnesses the handover of the first consignment of 60 pallets (or 720 packages) of food assistance, which we are informed contains maize meal, rice, cooking oil, fish, and beef from the State of Qatar, through their Qatar Fund for Development. This donation is a response to our appeal for assistance."

Representing the Qatari government, Sultan Hassan Abdulla was the Second Secretary of the Embassy of the State of Qatar.

"The 3000 food boxes from the government of the state of Qatar to the republic of Namibia come with the good relations, friendship, and strategic relationship of the partnership between the two countries."

The distribution of the food parcels will commence immediately, focusing first on the areas most severely affected. 

Volunteers and members of assigned ministries will mobilise and ensure that the aid is distributed swiftly and fairly.
