Chief Justice Peter Shivute has underlined the critical role of academic work in the justice system and its contribution to the development of jurisprudence.
Shivute delivered a key note address at the launch of several influential works by Dr. Marvin Awarab.
The event, themed "Celebrating the Work of Scholarship of Dr. M. Awarab: 2022-2024," was marked by insightful addresses and panel discussions, emphasising the significant impact of Dr. Awarab's research on Namibian and African legal systems.
Chief Justice Shivute highlighted how academic writing enriches the legal landscape by introducing well-researched perspectives and fostering a deeper understanding of complex legal principles, bridges the gap between theory and practice, and ensures that jurisprudence remains dynamic and responsive to societal needs.

Judge Bongani Luthuli, Acting Judge of the Labour Court of South Africa, who is also a co-author of one of Awarab's books, praised Dr. Awarab's work on workplace disciplinary procedures for its practical relevance and scholarly depth.
Dr. Awarab's book, General Principles of Workplace Disciplinary Procedures: A Namibian Perspective, co-authored with Charles Mukaya and HR practitioner Jonas Ileka, was a focal point of the launch.
The book offers a comprehensive overview of best practices for handling disciplinary matters in the workplace, drawing from Namibian legal precedents and international standards.
This work aims to equip employers and HR professionals with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of workplace discipline fairly and effectively.
In his presentation, Dr. Awarab delved into the nuances of contract law, providing detailed analysis and practical solutions to common contractual issues.
"I experienced trouble with my students not grasping the law of contract, so I thought I should come up with a Namibian book to assist my students to do better in their school work."
His work is therefore expected to become an essential reference for those dealing with contractual disputes and negotiations.
