An executive at TransNamib, Mberipura Hifitikeko, has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Otjiwarongo Municipality.
The appointment comes after almost a year without a CEO.
Making the announcement, Otjiwarongo Mayor Gottlieb Shivute said Hifikekeko's appointment came into effect on July 8.
Shivute says the council has confidence in Hifitikeko's leadership to transform the council and enhance service delivery.
"As Council, we anticipate that Mr. Hifitikeko's strategic vision and commitment to excellence will be instrumental in driving forward our initiatives, improving our service, and ensuring that the needs of our community are met with efficiency and innovation. As we welcome Mr. Hifitikeko, we extend our deepest gratitude to the acting CEOs who have been steering this institute. It was in the reign of Mr. Erikson Mwanyekange. He left us a month or two ago for greener pastures."
Hifitikeko takes over from Moses Matyayi, who left in July last year to head the City of Windhoek.
With the appointment of Hifitikeko, the Council looks to appoint strategic executives for Economic Development, Human Resources, Finance, Technology and Community Affairs.
The Grootfontien and Outjo Municipalities are yet to appoint CEOs.
Efforts to get progress from the municipalities in this regard, however, did not yield results.
