The City of Windhoek inaugurated its 25th Junior Council on Friday, where Ginel Goagoseb was elected Mayor, deputised by Anchor Hoebeb.

The junior council is the consignment of a leadership programme for young people to become great leaders in the future.

"Our Junior Council members are not merely participants in ceremonial roles; they are active agents of change, catalysts of progress, and champions of inclusivity and equity. As we embark on this journey together, let us remember that leadership is not about the pursuit of power; it is about service collaboration and uplifting those around us," said Windhoek Mayor, Queen Kamati.

Junior Mayor Goagoseb says the City of Windhoek Junior Council is committed to implementing its projects, such as the annual elderly project, the Cancer Project, which supports patients, especially children with cancer, the clean-up project, and the HIV and AIDS awareness campaign.

"For 2024/25, our core project is called the environmental beautification project. This project aims to create safe spaces for young people to come together in a safe environment that does not discriminate. A space that allows young people to speak up, learn, and entertain without fear or favour."

The former junior mayor, Sylvia Shapumba, urged the new members of the junior council to strive to do their best as representatives of the youth.

At the inauguration, the incoming council received the Mayoral Regalia as well as the badges.
