The Namibia Exile Kids Association has reaffirmed its affiliation with the Swapo Party, saying that the members identify themselves with the party as their political home.

The association's leadership clarified the stance during a courtesy call on President Nangolo Mbumba at State House.

NEKA submitted the application to be recognised as an affiliate beginning this year.

NEKA President Kadiva Hamutumwa says, "NEKA, as children born and raised during the liberation struggle, identify themselves to Swapo as our political home, and Congress ratified that as an association, we are then associating ourselves with the Swapo Party and no other party in the land of the brave."

NEKA has further resolved to incorporate the descendants of the children of the liberation struggle as ordinary members.

The association says it is considering changing its name as part of the overall rebranding process.

"We are cognizant of the fact that we are no longer kids and will drive a transformation programme."

The transformation initiatives would further see NEKA increasing self-sufficiency, embarking on educational programmes, and seeking and maintaining relations with foreign associations with similar interests.

NEKA Secretary of  Economics, Sebastian Namupala, says, "I have been tasked with coming up with companies so that we can be role players in the economy so that we would be able to generate income and be able to assist our members those that are struggling to make ends meet."

NEKA Secretary for Education, Liberty Iithete, says, "Beyond meeting the minimum education level, we are also looking to see that our people are computer literate, so those are some of the programmes, and a lot of this will be in association in the country."

"Having been exposed, we will grow as an institution, we have friends far away, all the way to Cuba, Korea. China, all the way to Scandinavia, former liberation movements, and the good thing is that network of friendship and solidarity still exists, and we support each other on the issue of Palestine, we are there in solidarity," says NEKA Secretary for External Affairs, Magongo Iipinge.

President Mbumba urged NEKA members to maintain discipline at all times.

"When you take decisions as an executive, when you take decisions as a CC, stick to those decisions. Splitting out of other people, saying I am not the one who said this, dancing around, and taking one positive decision as one organisation. The other thing is to be properly balanced. I see more guys here than ladies. They made the president lady, the minister of education lady, all the others."
