The Windhoek-Hosea Kutako International Airport road has also been named the 'Dr. Hage Geingob Freeway'.

President Nangolo Mbumba said the late Dr. Geingob has left behind a rich and proud legacy.

He said the road will stand as a testimony to the late's belief in nationhood, his message of unity, ideas of accountability and transparency, and his vision of an inclusive Namibian house.

"President Geingob was a transformational leader who played a role towards prosperity; he challenged us to hold hands as one Namibia, one nation, to take the journey down that road. Therefore, today we take pride in naming this magnificent highway after his cherished memory. From this day on, it shall be known as the Dr. Hage Geingob Freeway in honour of a historic son of the soil, a loving husband, a proud father, and a distinguished servant of the Namibian people."

On her part, the former First Lady Monica Geingos expressed her appreciation to the Roads Authority for naming the road after her late beloved husband.

"He also knew that this road was going to be named after him. He knew because Conrad came privately to test the water with him and tell him we would like to name the road after you; he said no. It must be named after President Pohamba because he did a lot for the country's infrastructure. He was told President Pohamba would have a road named after him at the coast. The second excuse he used was that maybe it shouldn't be done while I'm alive."

The Dr. Hage Geingob Freeway is a 50-kilometre stretch of road from Windhoek, where it forks off the Western Bypass, all the way to the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

"The name that it carries so far is just a geographical name, meaning we call it Windhoek-Hosea Kutako International Airport; therefore, it's going to get the name of our late president. This road, for example, links up with the Trans Kalahari Corridor that drives through Botswana to South Africa," said Works and Transport Minister John Mutorwa.
