It is said that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow; however, they are required to be active in democratic processes to prepare themselves for leadership roles.
 
It is against this background that the 'Namibia Needs Me' movement hosted a Democratic Participation Awareness programme aimed at ensuring that the youth take a collective pledge to actively participate in democracy. 

The Communications Officer of Namibia Needs Me, Ginola Nauseb, says when young people get involved in the democratic processes, they learn to become responsible and committed to civic duties. 

"So we know that youth voter empathy is a huge thing in Namibia, and as part of our project, we want to get young people engaged in dialogues about governance, how governance works, and how they can advocate for human rights and things like that. So what we do as a civic education project is we want to make young people more civicly active and more democratically active, and that is part of our work and to prepare for the elections as well."
 
Some of the young people who took part in the awareness programme stated the importance of voting this year. 

Namibia Needs Me is a civic education programme initiated by the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Namibia Institute for Democracy.
