Ten people were arrested on Saturday after they allegedly assaulted and threatened a 34-year-old woman during her boyfriend's funeral at Oupumako village near Ongwediva.

Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Oshana Police Force Community Policing Sub-division said the 10 suspects, including one man and nine women aged between 18 and 55, face charges of assault through threatening and defamation.

The woman was in Oupumako to attend the burial of her boyfriend, 37-year-old Matheus Ekandjo, who allegedly committed suicide in Walvis Bay last Monday.

It is reported that a group of people believed to be the deceased's relatives and other burial attendees stormed into the tent where the woman and her friends were sleeping and uttered death threats.

Aiyambo said the group also threatened to attack and stab her if she did not tell them what led to their relative's death.

He added that the suspects further threatened to kill the woman's children, accused her of killing Ekandjo, and said she switched off his cellphone after she killed him.

They further alleged that she was fighting for the deceased's property.

The suspects are being detained at the Ongwediva and Ondangwa police stations, and police investigations continue.
