Residents of Aus Settlement in the ||Kharas Region are worried about sewage overflowing from manholes into a dry riverbed, risking contamination of underground water. Despite complaints to the local settlement office, no action has been taken since January.
Local resident Bernd Roemer highlights the health risks, noting that raw sewage contaminates the river where children, animals, and birds come into contact with the water. He blames a lack of maintenance and improper disposal of substances for the problem.
Acting Chief Regional Officer Ralph Sachika acknowledges the issue and notes that the budget for repairs was only approved two weeks ago. He expects the problem to be addressed within a week and urges residents not to discard trash that could block the sewer pipeline.
