A Zambian national was arrested by the Katima Mulilo Police on Tuesday. The 37-year-old taxi driver was arrested and charged with having smuggled alcohol and using an illegal border crossing.

The owner of the vehicle is believed to be a Namibian national, while the driver is a Zambian national without a driver's license.

The items were found to be transported at an ungazetted point between the Namibia and Zambia borders.

Katima Mulilo Station Commander Charles Mayumbelo said he was baffled as to why people continue to smuggle alcohol into Zambia.

The recovered items are three boxes of Autumn Harvest, Tassenberg, Fourth Street, and Four Cousins, as well as beer and cider and crates full of Coca-Cola.

Mayumbelo issued a strict warning to all those attempting to smuggle alcohol illegally and cross the border at illegal points.
