Erongo Governor Neville Andre says the non-tariff barriers continue to be a major concern for stakeholders along the corridor.
Andre said issues such as complex administrative procedures, inconsistent enforcement of regulations, and excessive checkpoints are not only causing delays but also increasing the cost of doing business.
Speaking at the Trans Kalahari Coridor stakeholder meeting, Andre said despite progress made by the TCKs, they must acknowledge that several challenges persist.
These challenges include border and customs delays, insufficient coordination between agencies, outdated infrastructure, and limited availability of necessary technologies. He said, if not addressed effectively, it could limit the full realization of the TKC's potential.
He further says different regulatory misalignment standards across countries create additional layers of complexity for businesses.
A lack of harmonised regulations, especially in transport-related standards, complicates cross-border operations for both large and small traders.
Therefore, he urges all stakeholders to recommit to their collective goal of transforming the TKC into a world-class corridor.
