The Oranjemund Town Council has officially unveiled two new street names in Extension 4. One street has been named after the Leader of the Landless People's Movement (LPM), while the other honours the town of Omaruru.
'We gather for the remarkable milestone in our journey as a community. The naming of Road 1 to Omaruru Street and Road 2 to Honourable Swartbooi Street is more than just a change of names; it is a profound recognition of our past, where struggles, endurance, and resilience define us. It is the day to celebrate the rich history that has brought us to this point and look forward to the legacy we continue to build,' said Oranjemund Mayor Elias Kasemba.
LPM Leader Bernadus Swartbooi expressed gratitude for being honoured with a street name.
"Thank you, Oranjemund Town Council; thank you for THE honour. And we shall see each other in the terrain of improving the lives of our people. And, therefore, I accept on my behalf and the behalf of the Orange Movement the honour bestowed on us."
The Omaruru Town Council Management Committee Chairperson, Mangundu Sigberth, witnessed the street naming.
"We accept the naming of that street on behalf of our town, and we are really grateful for this town and the beautiful people of Oranjemund. I so thank you."
