The Public Service Commission is concerned over anomalies in audit reports relating to probation and leave of civil servants.

This was revealed by Commissioner in the Public Service Commission, Batseba Katjiuongua, at a recent engagement with government HR practitioners at Otjiwarongo. 

The Public Service Commission is a constitutional body that is responsible for the appointment and administration in the civil service. Among its mandates is to promote transparency and fairness in terms of service delivery, as well as advise the government on human resource management and public administration-related matters.

One of the commissioners of the Public Service Commission, Batseba Katjiuongua, pointed out that civil servants should take leave and rest so that their mental health is not affected.

She advised employees to refrain from banking their leave days and instead take time to rest. Resting she continued will boost their mental capability and promote quality service delivery.

"I believe that it is high time that we create a culture of care within the work environment in order to improve the wellbeing of the workforce. Otherwise, we are not doing a service to ourselves, and that must be done."

The commissioner urged employees to consult their supervisors when they face challenges regarding the filing of their probation reports and other work-related matters.

The commissioner says that they aim to ensure that human resource administration is at its peak level by engaging with all stakeholders at all levels of government.

She encouraged HR practitioners to share their experiences and learn from each other to ensure good service delivery and take a step toward meeting global standards.
