A 49-year-old man was found dead in an alleged suicide by hanging at his home in Katutura on Sunday, 20 October 2024. The discovery was made by his uncle at around 07:30 in his room on Hans Uirab Street.

According to the police, Leonard Van Wyk was last seen the previous night at around 22:50 when he went to bed, showing no signs of distress or suicidal behaviour. However, reports indicate that he had previously attempted to take his own life about five years ago.

In another incident, a 32-year-old man sustained serious head injuries in an unusual incident on Bahnhof Street, Rehoboth, on Saturday, 19 October 2024.

According to reports, the man was standing on the white line in the middle of the road when he unexpectedly jumped into the path of an oncoming blue Renault, which had a Windhoek registration number.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was tested for alcohol and found to be sober.

In Windhoek, three men were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning for possession of a large quantity of cannabis, commonly known as skunk, with an estimated street value of N$247,500. The suspects, aged 22, 24, and 43, were detained at around 00:40 during a routine police traffic check on the Windhoek-Okahandja road. 

Police investigations continue in all cases.
