Residents of the Ndama location in Rundu are requesting police visibility as street robberies increase.
The community shared its concerns with the Inspector General of the Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, during a patrol.
The community wants to see more patrols, especially now that the festive season is fast approaching.
Common crimes recorded in the Kavango East Region are housebreaking, street robbery, stock theft, and GBV.
"Crime is something that is fluctuating, but what we are saying is that our ultimate goal is that we want every Namibian to feel safer. We don't want a Namibian to lose a sweet; if you have a sweet, we want you to keep your sweet with you. Therefore, all this effort that we are trying to do here today and that the region will continue doing, we are actually striving to improve our statistics to come down as much as possible."
Shikongo assured the community that his team would respond to the community's requests for police visibility.
While in the region, the police chief also engaged the youth in crime prevention.
