There have been no arrests made so far in connection with the fatal cash-in-transit robbery that occurred in Swakopmund.
According to a police statement, the suspects escaped with N$350,000 on Monday. As the investigation continues, there have been no recoveries or arrests to report.
In the meantime, the police have released the identity of the security guard who was killed during the robbery. He was Erenst Araeb, a 42-year-old Namibian.
It is alleged that Araeb and two colleagues from Southern Cross Security arrived at the Platz am Meer Mall to transport money to the bank. After his colleagues collected cash from various shops, they proceeded to the parking lot to load the money into their van.
At that moment, the masked suspects approached the van. Araeb, who was serving as the driver, was reportedly pulled from the vehicle and shot in the head by one of the robbers. His colleague was allegedly struck on the head with a firearm, while the armed suspects seized the boxes of cash.
The four suspects fled the scene in a silver 7-seater vehicle with a fake registration number.
The police urge business owners to request an escort when necessary.
