||Kharas Regional Council Chairperson Joseph Isaack has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media regarding the irregular awarding of tenders and payments for incomplete work.
At the centre of the accusations is Ideal Project Consultants, which is allegedly owned by a relative of the council's acting Chief Regional Officer, Ralph Sachika.
The allegations are that the company was paid close to N$1 million from the N$50 million government allocated for bulk service infrastructure development at Aus Settlement.
Equally, the social media report also questioned the tender award, suggesting it was not advertised.
Addressing a media conference, Isaack maintained the tender award and payments to the company in question were above board.
"He completed his task; he did his job and is done and dusted. So you want to deny the person the money, and the payment is within the regulatory framework. It is not the money he wanted to have; it is the money applied within the purview of the allocation. What is wrong with this contract? And last but not least, and person that Ralph Sachika just became an acting CRO this year, that contract was signed last year in October, so how could we now say Ralph Sachika gave this contract to his family?"
Isaack noted the council and the acting CRO reserve the right to take legal action against the author of the social media report and accomplices.
"We wish to inform the media that before publishing information, they must first verify the authenticity of any document and also be open to consulting myself as the chairperson of the ||Kharas Regional Council if there is any uncertainty. I have the power to monitor, I have the power to supervise, and I always invite my staff members and also my councillors to anything; let's first talk about it so that we can maybe see if there is a misunderstanding, maybe there is a miscommunication. We can correct it. If there is corruption, we'll report corruption as a council, but not going leaking information; that is a very serious offence."
