To address unemployment and poverty in the country, the Swapo Party is committed to setting aside N$500 million for the production of high-nutrition products if given another mandate.

This was said by the party's vice president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at a star rally held at Rundu on Saturday. 

Nandi-Ndaitwah said agriculture and tourism are the Kavango East Region's strong economic activities with the potential to address food insecurity and joblessness. 

Investing in the government's green schemes in the region is one of the party's tools to address socio-economic challenges.

The Kavango East Region is home to Shadikongoro, Ndonga Linena, and Vhungu-vhungu green schemes. 

Nandi-Ndaitwah also added that Rundu is set to have a processing plant for watermelons, which should be produced twice or more a year.

The government under the Swapo Party leadership will continue to invest in education, indicating that 90% of Namibia's population is literate while 98% of children have access to education.

"We did so for us to empower our people and to prepare them for the work ahead. Today we are proud to see so many educational facilities in the country, which is covering all the regions. For example, out of 14,047 educational facilities recorded in 2022, 181 are in Kavango East, and that includes 36 combined schools. 125 primary schools 11 secondary schools, one special school, a university, and seven vocational centers. Honestly, who can mislead you to say that our government is neglecting some of the regions, including Kavango East? That is a clear lie. We know those schools our children are going to, and in addition to that, there are quite a number of early childhood development centres and primary schools run by individuals, but with the support of the government."

At the star rally, Swapo welcomed about 170 new members.
