The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI), launched and marked the beginning of an important project aimed at enhancing Namibia’s food safety standards for fishery and canned meat products. 
 
The inception brought together key stakeholders to discuss the project’s work plan, strategise its implementation, and set the groundwork for a collaborative approach to ensuring food safety and compliance with international standards. 
  
The Inspection Centre provides regulatory services to the fishing and canned meat industries to ensure public food safety and to facilitate trade in those commodities. 
 
It conducts inspection services for the Namibian fishing and canned meat industries for compliance of vessels and establishments and inspection of consignments of products to Compulsory Technical Regulations.
