Vendors at Outapi have welcomed the introduction of a Flea Market Day by the Outapi Town Council.

The business initiative, which started in May, is aimed at providing a platform to all vendors to market and sell their products to generate income.

The Outapi Town Council has allowed vendors to sell their goods along the road, taking services closer to their customers, a concept widely practiced in towns and cities globally.

Given the country's high unemployment rate, the Outapi town council is encouraging locals to seize the opportunity presented to their businesses.

The initiative attracted close to 100 entrepreneurs on Market Day, happening on Mondays and Fridays, with each vendor paying a daily operating fee of N$21 to the municipality.

Nyeuvo Ekandjo is Senior Manager for Local Economic Development and elaborates on how the idea of a Market Day was contrived and came about.

The vendors commended the council for the initiative but called on them to reduce the daily fee to N$10.
