BACKYARD

The residents of !Kosis settlement in the ||Kharas Region have embraced backyard gardening, turning every space in their yards into green spots. 

What sets apart this tiny settlement is the flourishing backyard gardens found at nearly every house, demonstrating an atmosphere of greenery and self-sustenance. 

When visiting this settlement, green spaces filled with small-scale crop fields of tomatoes, onions, pumpkins, watermelons, and grapevines are almost impossible to ignore. 

The settlement, with a population of less than a thousand, is located about 30 kilometres from the nearest town of Bethanie.

The residents say the backyard tradition began with their ancestors, who relied on small-scale gardening to feed their families and maintain a sustainable lifestyle.
