The Electoral Court will hear the election challenge for the National Assembly this Wednesday, and the police chief says that threats of potential violence and unrest have reached the ears of the security cluster.

Lieutenant General Josef Shikongo has warned that the police will not tolerate any form of violence or allow chaos under his watch.

Inspector General Shikongo urged all citizens to respect and accept the decisions of the courts.

He also revealed that the police have identified certain Namibians, including those living abroad, who are allegedly inciting unrest and protests.

"We do not want to see police officers using rubber bullets or water cannons against our citizens, but should you go beyond the line and push law enforcement into a corner, we have teeth to bite."

Shikongo stated that such actions will not be ignored and will be met with the full force of the law.

He emphasized that the police, in collaboration with other security sectors, will not allow intimidation, violence, or chaos to disrupt peace and order.

"There are those inciting people to take to the streets. I address this from a security perspective; the court challenge is a separate issue that should be resolved in court. However, those inciting demonstrations and chaos is not acceptable."

The chief of police called for unity to maintain peace and urged political leaders and stakeholders to discourage such actions.

He also announced that the Force has deployed members across the country to maintain order during the court challenge period.
