The City of Windhoek (CoW) has issued a warning to those seeking accommodation in the city to be cautious of scammers posing as property owners.

The criminals advertise rental spaces and demand instant payments from unsuspecting victims to secure properties.

The public is urged not to make any payments before viewing a potential property, verifying the owner's identification, and requesting copies of the property's title deed.

Additionally, individuals are advised not to send money through untraceable methods, such as digital wallets or cash transactions, and to be wary of deals that appear too good to be true.

Meanwhile, the University of Namibia (UNAM) has cautioned students against fraudsters who promise university admission for a fee.

Students are advised to keep their belongings secure at all times and to stay in safe environments.

Furthermore, students should be vigilant for scammers selling fake course outlines and unauthorized student portal access.

They are also urged to report any suspicious activity to the UNAM Student Affairs Office at 061-206-3217.
