The Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced the temporary closure of the Mondesa Clinic in Swakopmund following a fire incident that broke out in the early hours of Monday.
According to a police report, a guard employed by Six Thousand Security Services was on duty at the clinic when he heard several strange sounds, resembling explosions. Shortly after, a nearby resident alerted the guard that the clinic was engulfed in flames. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have originated from the pharmacy section of the clinic.
The Swakopmund Municipality's Fire Brigade contained the blaze.
While significant damage to pharmaceuticals and important records, including revenue books, was recorded, consultation rooms remained largely intact, sustaining only minimal damage to medications and electronics. There were no injuries or casualties recorded during this incident.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, and the extent of the damage is still being evaluated.
The public is therefore advised to seek services at the Tamariskia Clinic. Antenatal Care, family planning and immunization services can also be accessed at the DRC clinic, while patients seeking services for wound care can access these services at the Swakopmund District Hospital.
