Flood victims who were moved to Farm 508 on the outskirts of Goreangab are satisfied with the plots on which they were settled by the City of Windhoek.
However, there are some challenges, particularly with transport for their school-going children.
Residents at Farm 508 say that although they are grateful for the land provided, they still face poverty daily.
Among their concerns are the long distances they have to walk to find a taxi to go to work and for their children to go to school.
Taxis charge N$26 for a one-way trip to be dropped off at Okapale and then walk the remainder of the distance to the settlement or pay an additional N$20 up to Farm 508.
Fiona Kamesepo who moved from Otjomuise to Farm 508 says she has lost her job because she would often show up late due to the time it takes her to walk and find a taxi.
The residents suggest that the Municipality introduce a bus shift for the mornings that will take at least one trip to a place that is suitable for them to find a taxi.
Another resident, Hilde Gaeses, claims that leopards are roaming the area, which poses a threat to them and their pets.
She says leopards often come at night scratching on their makeshift structures.
They say that apart from the few challenges they are facing, they appreciate the effort that the government has made.
