Mourners showed up in large numbers for a candlelight ceremony held in honour of late Founding President Sam Nujoma at the Kavango East Governor's Office, despite the drizzle.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council Damian Maghambayi described the late Founding President as not only a liberator but also a leader who worked tirelessly to unite all Namibians in pursuit of a common goal.

"Dr. Nujoma was a man of deep compassion who advocated for national reconciliation, healing, and the rebuilding of a nation that was once divided by apartheid. His leadership in this area brought peace and unity to our diverse society, ensuring that all Namibians could live together in harmony. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of our people."

In an interview with nbc News, the Mayor of Rundu, Gabriel Kanyanga, said Dr. Nujoma's journey as a young freedom fighter in the war trenches laid a foundation for the independence and sovereignty the Namibian people now enjoy.
