The Minister of Health and Social Services has urged the public to collaborate in ensuring the full implementation of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Policy. The policy, approved by the Cabinet, aims to make healthcare more affordable and emphasize preventive care.

The endorsed policy framework outlines steps to achieve UHC, guided by national consensus. Its primary goal is to ensure all Namibians can access healthcare without financial barriers.

"Throughout the policy framework development process, stakeholders, led by the Ministry of Health and Social Services, examined what UHC means for Namibia, assessed progress, and identified necessary actions to achieve it. It became clear that UHC requires services to be available to all people, where and when they need them," the Ministry stated.

Dr. Shangula emphasized that the policy will ensure equitable, quality healthcare for all Namibians and boost investment in the public health sector. Funding for implementation will be mobilized through annual appropriations over five-year intervals.

"Good health and well-being are central to national development, contributing to a prosperous population, a productive workforce, and a healthier future generation," he added.

Shangula described the policy's approval as a historic milestone, marking a significant step toward socio-economic prosperity for Namibia.
