The Shingunguma Primary School and Onghala Combined School in the Ohangwena Region have suspended classes due to heavy rains received in the region, accompanied by floodwater from Angola.
A delegation led by Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga took a trip to the two schools to observe the situation.
The two schools are surrounded by water, making it difficult for children to cross the floodplains to and from school.
To save lives, classes were temporarily suspended on the 4th and 10th of this month, respectively, and are only likely to resume around July this year.
Shingunguma Primary School, situated in Eengava village, is the worst affected, as it does not have a single accessible road leading to the school.
The school accommodates 376 learners from pre-grade to grade seven, who are now at home waiting for the water to subside.
The principal, Grace Musheko, said the permanent solution to her school is to construct access roads and bridges to enable learners and teachers to reach school freely and safely.
Onghala Combined School has a total of 638 learners from pre-grade to grade nine, and all grades are suspended.
Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga said there is a need for more access roads for the people of Ohangwena to be able to access government services without hindrance.
