The Governor of the ||Kharas Region, Aletha Frederick, has emphasised the need for concerted efforts to safeguard children's well-being.

She made the remarks at the establishment of the ||Kharas Regional Child Care Protection Forum at Keetmanshoop.

The Regional Child Care Protection Forums, previously called Orphan and Vulnerable Children Forums, have been in existence since 2004.

In 2010, they renamed it to reflect that any child can be at risk of vulnerability. The primary focus of these fora is children's rights and protection.

Governor Aletha Frederick is the forum's chairperson.

"Let us remember this forum will serve as an educational platform, a space where we can share knowledge of our child protection laws, services available to families in need and best practices that are proven effective in other regions. Together we will foster collaboration among various institutions, including government entities, NGOs, community leaders and concerned citizens. Therefore, I urge each one of you to engage actively in today's discussions. Your insights are valuable as we work together to establish a robust regional child care forum that will champion the rights of children in this region."

The former Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare spearheaded the establishment of the Child Care Protection Forum.
