The Social Security Commission’s (SSC) Development Fund has allocated more than N$60 million to boost employment and training initiatives across Namibia.
A total of 29 projects will benefit from the funding. These include agricultural ventures, brick-making, open market development, research, and vocational training programs aimed at equipping Namibians with skills for long-term opportunities.
Speaking at the fund distribution ceremony, Minister of Justice and Labour Relations Wise Immanuel said the initiative has already created over 1,800 jobs and continues to empower more people every year.
“The SSC’s contribution to national development and economic growth is unmatched,” said Immanuel. “Whatever sphere of operation you find yourself in, go and be impactful.”
The Development Fund focuses on investing in human capital, with special attention to women, youth, and marginalised communities. Its aim is to drive sustainable development through skills training, job creation, enterprise support, and social innovation.
Milka Mungunda, Executive Officer of the SSC, said the fund is a testament to their commitment to making a difference.
“This is about creating opportunities where they are needed most. We honor our stakeholders with gratitude for their trust and support,” she said.
Board Chairperson Markus Kampungu also highlighted the importance of collaboration in building a stronger, more secure society.
“Your engagement, compliance, and collaboration have allowed us to fulfill our mandate, to offer a lifeline to the vulnerable and dignity to workers,” he said.
The SSC, established in 1995, is responsible for collecting contributions, registering members, paying benefits, and investing funds to ensure social protection for all.
