Usakos was shattered last week when six family members were allegedly murdered by a teenage relative.
The victims—95-year-old Ouma Elizabeth, three-year-old Rachel Boer, three-year-old Emie Boer, six-year-olds Ibriha Gabriel and Raunisia, and 17-year-old Finney (the suspect’s twin sister)—have left the community in mourning.
Relatives struggle to comprehend the tragedy.
Josephine !Naruses, a family member, said:
“It’s hard for me. What he did was a tragedy. He was a loving child, but this world teaches harsh lessons.”
Rauna !Naruses, a grieving mother who lost her daughters and great-grandmother, shared:
“They were all mine. We struggled together. She would scold me, and I’d accept it. Now they’re gone.”
The town points to drug abuse as a hidden crisis fueling youth violence.
Danakhoe Sofia Goagoses, a community leader, urged action:
“This was caused by substance abuse. Usakos must stand up—stop bars selling to minors. Drugs lead to this.”
As darkness falls, some youths turn to sports for escape, while others spiral into addiction. Now, Usakos demands change before more lives are lost.
