Sibbinda Constituency is the latest to receive fibre connectivity from Telecom Namibia.
Connected to the internet now are the constituency office, the health centre, and the education circuit.
Acting Technical Manager for Telecom in the Zambezi Region, Vennetty Kabunga, says that despite the constituency only implementing fibre connectivity this year, they are happy with the telecommunications service provider's efforts across the region since 2023.
"We have realized in Sibbinda Constituency that we have various ministries connected via satellite, and these have experienced slow connectivity for our customers; therefore, Telecom Namibia, being the preferred company, has decided to bring fibre to Sibbinda as a means of rural development."
Constituency councillor Mikey Lukaezi said locals now have a platform to keep up with employment and study opportunities.
Lukaezi handed over other items on behalf of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and the Zambezi Regional Council to beneficiaries from poultry and brick-making projects.
"The official handover of materials for the Linyanti chicken project is a meaningful initiative aimed at uplifting our community through sustainable livelihood. This project, funded by the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Child Welfare, is a shining example of what targeted support and government interventions can achieve when aligned with the needs of our people."
The Women Brickmaking Project was granted 100 bags of cement, a 2,500-litre water tank, two wheelbarrows, three spades, and a hosepipe.
Malilo Lumponjani is the Community Development Officer in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.
"If they work hard, it will not seem small for many years; it will become something significant. But if they see that it is less and ignore making it better, then it will be nothing. However, if they work hard, it will be a big thing. We appreciate many areas; as I speak now, if we go to Kalinyangile, we have a tailoring project; that man is a hard worker. I wish he could be here to share something with the community so they could learn from him."
Sibbinda District Headman Induna Mutuwangele Sikosinyana applauded the initiative.
"My request is that you must make use of the projects while the opportunity is still there and create opportunities for those who are yet to benefit. You will serve as pioneers of project management that others will emulate. Do not hide the information; ensure you spread awareness to others."
