The family of Kilus Hishongwa from Onekwaya Village of the Ohangwena Region, who was allegedly murdered by his grandson, are pleading with young people to do self-introspection and change their ways.

Some of the family members were inconsolable, and in their grief they could not comprehend what just happened to the 95-year-old Hishongwa.

Hishongwa's 30-year-old grandson, who resided with him, has been arrested for his brutal murder.

It's reported that the suspect first shot his 25-year-old cousin, who was fishing at a floodplain, in the head with an arrow and warned him that he and his grandfather will all die.

The victim ran home to notify his grandfather, but the suspect was fast enough to catch up with his grandfather, who was running to the mahangu field for safety.

It is reported that the suspect attacked his grandfather and decapitated his head with a panga.

The suspect then followed his cousin to the clinic when he ran there for medical attention, and nurses locked the clinic for their safety.

When he realised that, he broke the windows of the clinic but went back home when he failed to gain entry.

There he sat at the fireplace and informed the onlookers that he killed his grandfather, and after a prolonged standoff with the police, he was apprehended.

Ohangwena's Acting Crime and Investigations Coordinator, Paulus Nandenga, says the police remain committed to ensuring that perpetrators are brought to book at all costs.

The suspect who accused his victims of allegedly trying to poison him is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
