Members of the World Mission Society Church of God rolled up their sleeves in Windhoek and Oshakati to donate blood at the Namibia Blood Transfusion Service (NAMBTS) centres.
The initiative is part of a global blood drive campaign launched by the church in 2005 in South Korea. Since then, the drive has been held over 1,553 times across 64 countries.
In Namibia, about 40 volunteers from different age groups participated, contributing a total of 81 millilitres of blood.
“But at least 40 donors qualified to donate blood,” said Johannes Kawali, one of the volunteers. “Now it is said that a unit can save up to 3 lives. That is 40 times 3. Each and every person who came to donate, they did it selflessly—understanding and realizing the love of Christ who came. Let not God wait for you.”
Fellow donor Denzel Kandombo added, “This kind of initiative is closely related to our beliefs in the Church of God. We believe in the Passover of the New Covenant, which Jesus established through his sacrifice on the cross in order to save mankind. And secondly, it is because of Jesus’ teaching—‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’”
Salmi Shingwedha, Marketing Officer at NAMBTS, praised the group for their life-saving contributions.
“We are grateful for them as they have come in to save lives,” she said. “They are heroes and they made it possible for the many donations that were sent today.”
The Church of God continues to promote a culture of blood donation through its global outreach, reminding communities of the power of selfless giving.
