President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on young people to actively engage in global issues and defend multilateralism, which she warned is under increasing threat.

During the official opening of the 21st General Assembly of the World Federation of Democratic Youth in Windhoek, Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah urged the Assembly to focus its discussions on pressing global challenges and to pass resolutions that uphold justice, inclusivity, unity and equality, ensuring that no nation is oppressed or marginalised.

The president said countries like Namibia are vulnerable if threats to multilateralism are not addressed.

She highlighted the importance of young people stepping up and mobilising one another to support and defend multilateral cooperation.

Nandi-Ndaitwah further condemned the lingering imperialist effects of colonialism and encouraged young people to stand united against ongoing injustices worldwide.

Reminding attendees of the historical relationship between WFDY and the Swapo Party Youth League, dating back to Namibia's liberation struggle, Nandi-Ndaitwah called on young people to carry forward the spirit of anti-imperialist revolution and to foster unity among progressive forces.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah further reaffirmed Namibia's support for the self-determination of Palestine and Western Sahara and the lifting of sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela and Zimbabwe, describing these as relics of imperialism.

Warning of looming global economic challenges, she urged the youth to respond with solidarity and innovation, to use their skills for economic growth, and to advocate for fair trade.

At the same time, she implored young people to actively engage in political and economic discussions for global benefits and address challenges affecting the youth.

The assembly serves as a vital platform for progressive youth worldwide, united for a fairer and more peaceful world.

Amid ongoing global challenges, the WFDY General Assembly remains key in uniting youth against imperialism.

WFDY has long championed anti-imperialism and solidarity by mobilising young people against apartheid, colonialism, and militarism and supporting national liberation movements across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
