The Kavango West Regional Council has launched a constituency outreach program aimed at addressing both immediate needs and long-term development goals in rural communities.
The program commenced in Silikunga village, located in the Mpungu Constituency, and will continue until June 19, 2025, covering all eight constituencies in the Kavango West Region.
Egidius Nambara, the Director of Development Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, announced plans to construct major water pipelines from Rundu to Mpungu and further to Mururwani, along with a canal system to provide clean water to remote villages.
To address ongoing electricity issues, the council is collaborating with suppliers to replace outdated infrastructure, particularly aging wooden poles that contribute to frequent outages.
Nambara emphasized the council's commitment to improving living conditions in rural areas through targeted initiatives focusing on sanitation, food security, and skills development.
The regional council is intensifying the distribution of toilets in rural villages, prioritizing areas with high concentrations of elderly residents.
This targeted approach acknowledges the specific needs of vulnerable community members who may have mobility challenges in accessing adequate sanitation facilities.
In the villages of Ouhomba and Mbome, residents face significant challenges due to a lack of basic infrastructure and services. These challenges include unreliable electricity supply, limited access to health services, and inadequate communication resources, which hinder connectivity and information flow.
Residents of Silikunga expressed frustration over unprofessionalism that exacerbates difficulties in accessing essential services.
Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo has reaffirmed the government's commitment to community-driven development, urging leaders to translate promises into concrete actions.
She assured that constituency visits will continue throughout the region, emphasizing that no village, household, or voice will be overlooked in the pursuit of progress.
