The Magistrates and Judges Association (MJA) celebrated its 30th anniversary on Friday, alongside the launch of its official website.

The website aims to promote transparency and strengthen connections among members across the country.

Since its establishment in 1995, the MJA has focused on judicial independence, legal reform, and improving conditions of service for its members, while fostering unity and professionalism within the judiciary.

Chief Justice Peter Shivute said, “The strength of any association lies not in its constitution or its name, but in the commitment of its members. I wish to use this occasion to encourage all judicial officers, whether newly appointed or seasoned, to play an active role in the life of the MJAN. Your participation matters, your insights matter, and your presence adds to the richness of our collective identity.”

The association outlined its plans for the next two years, which include continuity management, boosting visibility through its website and social media, community outreach, and developing a mentorship framework to support newly appointed judicial officers.

MJA President Victor Nyazo said, “Being a judicial officer to an uninformed observer may come across as being all about reverence and commanding authority. However, that is far from the truth, as behind the scopes are human beings with personal struggles and not demigods who carry the heavy weight of the gravel that comes with immense responsibilities.”

The launch of the website marks a step towards greater engagement with members, stakeholders, and the public, reflecting the association’s commitment to professionalism and the unity of Namibia’s judiciary.
