Landless People's Movement MP Eneas Emvula said there is a lack of opportunities for people over 35, who he said are often left out.

He cited as an example the Green Hydrogen Scholarship, which supports Namibians between the ages of 18 and 35.

Emvula stressed that many Namibians above the age of 35 are unemployed and do not get opportunities, such as access to finance.

He also questioned whether the president considers funding programmes under the National Training Authority for them to get qualifications.

"The age bracket seems to be a little bit of a problem; it covers 18 to 35, those who are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Now the concern here is that we have many Namibians who are above 35 years old and are unemployed, and they form part of the 54% unemployment rate that the country is faced with, actually, as part of the 18% that have given up on looking for jobs. Many of those 35 or above 35 years of age do not get opportunities to get a loan from the bank because they don't have a qualification or evidence of a qualification."

In response, Prime Minister Elija Ngurare agreed, saying opportunities must also be created for this age group and for those without qualifications.

"It cannot be denied that there are many people out there who are even better qualified in many things of an artistic nature and so forth but oftentimes are denied opportunities because they do not have precisely what you have said, so I am in agreement, and I think her excellency will also be in agreement that a solution be found."

He also emphasised that they would engage NTA to look into this problem.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that he will appeal to financial institutions to support people who are talented in other fields and those who have showcased capacity and ability to do something.
