India and Namibia continue to deepen their diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.
Reflecting on the recent visit by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Acting Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, Elvis Shiweda, said the visit added momentum to shared bilateral relations and cooperation.
Modi's visit marked a milestone in bilateral relations, with both countries reflecting on shared history and exploring new areas of cooperation. It also highlighted India's commitment to working with Namibia in achieving its developmental goals such as Vision 2030 and the Harambee Prosperity Plan.
Speaking on NBC’s parliamentary programme Inside the Chambers, Shiweda said, “India brings voices of the South to bear within multilateral and international institutions by ensuring that countries such as Namibia’s interests and concerns of the global South are attended to.”
“There is a reflection in our discussions. There is the reflection which, through our engagements such as state visits, should translate into addressing domestic challenges and also take advantage of domestic opportunities, economic activities that are available together with our partners,” he said.
Shiweda noted that the human resource component of cooperation stood out as the highlight of India's visit to Namibia.
“We're very much cognizant that the investment in human capital and the upscaling of skills and the necessary competencies are crucial for any country's development, which in fact deserve their fundamental driver to economic growth, where you have your own citizens taking charge of their development as well as their economic growth,” he said.
