President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed broadcast journalist Jonas Mbambo as Press Secretary and Spokesperson of the Presidency.

The appointment is effective from the 1st of August.

The Presidency, in a statement, said that with strong analytical skills and knowledge of the political landscape, Mbambo brings to the Presidency a wealth of knowledge gained in media and specifically broadcast journalism. 

The former news anchor and Assistant Editor on Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's Digital News Desk, Mbambo holds a law degree from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, among other professional achievements.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed confidence in the ability of Mbambo to carry out his duties with success. 

The Head of State also extended appreciation to the outgoing Press Secretary, Alfredo Hengari, for his dedicated years of service during his tenure as Press Secretary and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

Dr. Hengari served the Presidency for seven years, appointed in 2018 by late President Hage Geingob following the redeployment of now Ambassador Albertus !Aochamub into the foreign service.
