Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge has reaffirmed that the country's set developmental agenda remains an anchor towards delivering development and speaks to the needs of the people.
Iipinge cited accountability and reaffirmation of shared values as responsible for a renewed sense of purpose in development.
Iipinge delivered his maiden State of the Region Address.
Reflecting on the region's successes, he took stock of challenges and set the tone for future activities.
Iipinge reiterated the importance of tangible development that is inclusive of all residents.
While this is the intention, Oshakati, Ongwediva, and Ondangwa have a combined backlog of 877 plots.
The government, on the other hand, has set aside a budget of N$103 million for the formalisation of informal settlements at Oshakati.
Some of the region's notable successes include the construction of water infrastructure, including the expansion of the Oshakati Purification Plant, at N$818 million, and the construction of the Oshakati to Ogongo pipeline, at N$206 million.
Others include the Ondangwa to Omutsegwonime pipeline at a cost of N$90 million, as well as the refurbishment of the Oshakati Ogongo Canal for N$30 million, through the Ministry of Agriculture.
"The successful execution of these projects ensured improved access and water supply capacity across urban and rural areas and, at the same time, boosted economic growth in the region. Projects should be implemented without compromise to meet our demands for economic growth and development."
The Oshana Governor highlighted that adverse climatic conditions continue to threaten food security for both humans and livestock.
This situation has prompted the region to procure food and support drought-affected households for N$992,000 over the review period.
The government also provided monthly drought relief to 554 marginalised households in the region.
Iipinge commended the Agriculture Ministry for its efforts to combat poverty and promote food security.
"The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, through the Dry Land Crop Production Program, subsidised 13,798 farmers in terms of ploughing services, seeds, and fertilisers to enhance agricultural production for N$4 million."
He encouraged local authorities to establish recreational parks and sports facilities to foster youth development.
"Over the past years, efforts have intensified through targeted programs in health, education, housing, and social protection, especially for vulnerable communities."
