The University of Namibia (UNAM) has identified the need to align its curriculum with the demands of current and future trends, as well as emerging industries in the age of rapid technological advancements, artificial intelligence, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

It is against this background that UNAM held a stakeholders' meeting in Swakopmund to deliberate on the restructuring of the Bachelor of Science in Maritime Science.

UNAM currently offers a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Science and is in the process of reviewing a Bachelor of Maritime Engineering to ensure it fully aligns with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.

Dean of the School of Engineering and the Built Environment, Professor Petrine Johannes, says these changes aim to equip graduates with modern, industry-relevant skills.

Johannes stressed that higher education often faces criticism for producing graduates whose skills do not match market demands, hence the review of the curriculum.
