President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed concern over growing disunity in Namibia, saying it is a threat to the country's socio-economic development.

Speaking at the Heroes Day commemoration at Katima Mulilo on Tuesday, the president called on leaders from all sectors to renew their commitment to maintaining peace, justice, and sustainable development.

The head of state stressed that collective effort is essential to ensure that the "fruits of freedom" translate into shared prosperity for every Namibian across all 14 regions.

Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted a message of goodwill she received from the leader of the opposition, PDM president McHenry Venaani, who was unable to attend the Heroes Day event. 

The president cited his message as a positive example of unity that transcends political affiliations.

Nandi-Ndaitwah further bemoaned the lack of support citizens show for one another, stating that the country is on the verge of self-destruction in the absence of change.

The president urged citizens to resolve their differences with respect and tolerance rather than resorting to violence.

Nandi-Ndaitwah reminded the audience that great sacrifice and bloodshed were necessary to secure Namibia's peace, liberty, and justice. 

She urged Namibians to protect this hard-won political freedom while recognising the ongoing struggle for economic independence.
